Courses designated as BMS courses are offered to students who are pursuing a special major in the biomedical sciences.

Biomedical Sciences (BMS)

490 Biomedical Sciences Research (1-8) (F; Sp; Su)
Prerequisites: junior/senior standing; special majors only
Students collaborate with research mentors on an ongoing project in the laboratory of their mentors or conduct independent research under the guidance of their mentors. This experience provides students with an inquiry-based learning opportunity and engages them as active learners in a research setting. Opportunities to hone students' oral and written communication skills are made available. LAB

495 Biomedical Sciences Seminar (1) (F; Sp)
Weekly meetings with scientists and clinicians in a seminar offered by various departments within the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. SEM

497 Biomedical Sciences Internship (1-4) (F; Sp; Su)
Prerequisites: junior/senior standing; special majors only
Exposes students to a nonacademic environment within which to apply the knowledge gained via traditional coursework. Students have the opportunity to work with a community, government, or private agency as a student intern. This volunteer, credit-bearing experience gives students the opportunity to "test the waters" in a specific job setting. Students may opt for work sites whose primary focus is medical, business, research, or journalistic. TUT
